About Us
Together for almost three years, our journey began with a city trip to Portugal, followed by an unforgettable backpacking adventure in Thailand. Since then, we’ve embarked on numerous trips, each filled with unique experiences and memories. Our shared passion for travel inspired us to start this blog, where we document our adventures and share our stories with fellow travel enthusiasts.
Who are we?
We are Sanne and Chris, a travel-loving couple from Utrecht, the Netherlands. Sanne, 23, has a background in developmental psychology and currently works at the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sports. Chris, 28, studied software development and is now employed at a Dutch bank. Despite our full-time jobs, we seize every opportunity to travel and explore new destinations.
Utrecht, which we proudly consider the best city in the Netherlands, is our home base. However, an exciting chapter awaits us as we prepare to move to Saba for six months for Sanne’s job!
About Sanne
My passion for travel started when I went on a solo trip to Canada at the age of 17. The feeling of freedom and excitement to explore a new country is something indescribable. For me this blog is a creative outlet and excuse to learn more about photography and video editing. What I like most about having a blog is that when I spend hours researching the best spots, or get stupidly excited over making itineraries and complicated timetables, I can share this with others!
About Chris
I’ve been traveling from an early age. As a child, I went on road trips with my family through the United States and New Zealand, and I also lived in Aruba for three years! On my travels, I like being in nature and am happiest when hiking on a mountain trail with views of canyons and waterfalls. I also really enjoy city trips, especially trying the cuisines of different countries and learning more about the history and culture of a place. When I’m not on the road, I work as a software developer, and help improving our website.

Why did we start Little Black Compass?
Our passion for exploring new countries and learning about different cultures has taken us to some incredible places. In 2023, we decided to channel this passion into a new adventure by sharing our experiences through our blog, “Little Black Compass.”
Initially, we started this blog as a hobby—a fun way to look back on the beautiful moments we’ve experienced during our travels. However, it quickly became more than just a personal journal. We found ourselves delving into web design, photography, and even investing in a drone to capture stunning aerial views of our destinations.
What began as a simple pastime has transformed into a platform where we can share our travel tips, meticulously planned itineraries, and memorable stories with others. We love inspiring fellow travelers and helping them make the most of their own adventures.
