6x the best restaurants in New Haven

New Haven is a foodie’s paradise, with a diverse array of dining options to suit any palate. In this blogpost I will share five of my favorite places to eat in New Haven with you that are sure to satisfy your cravings.

1. Sally’s Apizza

A New Haven institution since 1938, Sally’s Apizza is a must-visit for anyone in the mood for a classic Neapolitan-style pizza. The pies are cooked in a coal-fired oven, which imparts a unique flavor and texture that sets them apart from other pizzas in the area. The simple, no-frills décor of the restaurant is part of its charm, and the friendly service will make you feel right at home. The restaurant is known for its communal seating, where diners share large tables and pass around giant pizzas. When we went there with a group we underestimated the size of the pizzas and ordered a pizza each. When the waiter came bringing in our pizzas we immediately knew that we had ordered way too much, the pizzas were served on a large baking tray and cover the table almost completely.

2. Koffee?

If you’re looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry, Koffee? is the perfect place. This shabby but hip café offers a variety of artisanal coffee blends, as well as a selection of baked goods that are made in-house daily. The brightly painted red brick walls combined with the slouchy armchairs give the place it’s character. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, it’s a popular place to study or relax after a long day.

3. Bruegger’s Bagels

Some of the best bagels in the United States can be found in New Haven. For a quick breakfast or lunch on the go, Bruegger’s Bagels is the go-to spot. The bagels are fresh and delicious, and there are a variety of toppings and spreads to choose from. They also offer a selection of sandwiches and salads, as well as coffee and other beverages. With several locations throughout New Haven, it’s easy to grab a bite on the run.

4. Sherkaan

If you’re in the mood for something a little more exotic, Sherkaan is a fantastic option. This Indian-inspired restaurant offers a range of street-food dishes that are both flavorful and healthy, with many vegetarian and vegan options available. The restaurant’s décor is cool and rustic, with bicycles being suspended from the ceiling. The lively atmosphere makes it perfect for a night out with friends.

5. Omni

For a truly special dining experience, Omni is a must-visit. This upscale restaurant offers a menu of contemporary American cuisine that features locally sourced ingredients and innovative flavor combinations. The atmosphere is elegant and sophisticated, making it the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a celebratory meal with friends. If you don’t plan on spending your life time savings here, do still visit but only for a drink. The rooftop bar provides you with an amazing panorama view of New Haven.

6. Pedals Smoothie & Juice Bar

If you’re looking for a quick, healthy and refreshing snack or meal in New Haven, this bicycle themed smoothie bar is the perfect spot for you. This vibrant little café offers a variety of smoothies, juices, and bowls that are packed with fresh fruits and vegetables, making them a great option for anyone who wants to eat healthily on the go. The menu at Pedals Smoothie & Juice Bar features a variety of smoothies, with options like the Green Pedal (kale, spinach, banana, pineapple, and coconut milk) or my absolute favorite smoothie the Midnight Ride (Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries apple juice, activated charcoal). Each smoothie is made with fresh, whole ingredients and can be customized to your liking.
